GURIEL
GURIEL MCH & OPD
Guriel MCH and OPD have been occupied by the invading Ethiopian army from 26th of June up-to 27th of December 2007 and have sustained extensive damages caused by the destructive enemy forces. After the Ethiopian enemy left, the centre has undergone vast rehabilitation, refurnishing and re-equipping process which was on course for the entire first 3 months of 2008. However, in spite of all these obstacles and inconveniences, the centre has received 3230 patients in which 1991 were female (61.64 %) and 1239 were male (38.36 %). Children under five years of age constituted 1464 (45.33 %).
Out of the total patients received, 390 were pregnant women. Children under 5 years of age and women population made the main bulk of the MCH and OPD attendants. Our target was to receive 520 patients per month and 6240 patients per year. However, because of the rehabilitation activities which took 3 months, continuous displacements caused by the Ethiopian army invasions, Somali rival groups, the target was not achieve. Only 3 230 patients have been received which is half of the target number
The main diseases for visiting the MCH and OPD were respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, trauma of different nature, intestinal parasites, anaemia, eye infection, watery diarrhoea, malaria, skin diseases and dysentery etc. Please, see the table below as an example.
